Train With People Like You

The number one question we get is: “Will there be people like me to train with?” And the answer is: Yes!

Our group attracts over 150 participants. Some people start off not being able to run a half-mile in January and by June they are able to run/walk the Bjorklund Half Marathon. Others in our group start fit and just get faster. Whatever your goal is, we will meet you where you are and help you get to where you want to go.

“Duluth Running Co. has helped me to prepare and feel confident for running my first half marathon. I’ve learned a lot about running—which has helped me improve—through the advice of our training coach, Alisha. She and the training group as a whole have given me an amazing training experience as everyone’s been extremely encouraging—especially when I experienced running longer distances for the first time and setting new PRs throughout my training. I’m beyond grateful for the new friends I’ve made since joining Duluth Running Co.’s half marathon training group. I’ve enjoyed it so much that I’m already planning to return next year to train for the full marathon.”

-Hannah Sorenson

“I moved to Duluth in 2017 and decided to run Grandma’s Half Marathon as a way to mark my move. I halfheartedly trained with some friends for a couple months and then dragged myself through the race. It wasn’t a terrible experience, but it definitely wasn’t the best! Fast forward four years and I was ready to try again. This time, I wanted to train right, so I joined the Duluth Running Company’s training group. The group starts in January, 22 weeks before Grandma’s weekend. Through the pandemic, -10 degree runs, working as a professor and head of my department, schooling my 7-year-old at home, my father’s cancer diagnosis and treatment, and my partner working and living out of town, DRC’s training group was my lifeline. I completed almost every training run and running quickly became a protected time to focus on myself, process my day, and be in a community with others. I started in January having not run in over a year and those first runs were brutal, but now I actually look forward to the longer runs. I’m not an overly talkative runner and usually use my running time to think about my day and shed some of the stress and responsibility of my life outside of running. But having the community of
a running group was essential to my training. On those long group runs I like to imagine we are connected by an invisible web of ropes, pulling and pushing each other along, up and down the hills and over the finish line. I’m really excited to run the half marathon this year and I am grateful to my training group for making it possible!”
